Welcome

Welcome to the Kabelen Family Farm Homestead

A beginning to homestead dream.

Old homestead art

In the spring and summer of 2020, while the world was focused on the Covid pandemic, in a small central Utah town a new adventure began. To be quite honest, this farm was not started from any relation to the pandemic, but from a dream to build a new business that provided food items to family, friends and our community. This is our retirement plan. A homestead farm producing quality goat milk, goat cheese, goat yogurt, and a variety of other products lovingly handmade.

In a large part, the move to this small town was motivated by the desire to be a part time caregiver to two aging parents who were enduring life changing medical issues. With their generosity and encouragement, part of their land was gifted to us to build this farm and begin the journey to raising livestock and gardening.

We started off with just a few chickens and a couple of goats to supplement a small garden plot. Each aspect of the farm needed to be built from the chicken coop to a barn to house the goats. Beginning with a limited budget, Jeff began by making use of repurposed materials for these structures. A friend, for example, donated an old truck camper that was refurbished into a coop for the chickens. A shipping container became the first barn to provide shelter for the goats. Pallets were used along with garage door panels to build a hay barn.

After three seasons, we have learned much as we researched, experimented, and made progress in building our dream. We invite you to join us in this journey as we share our successes, lessons learned, and the joy we have found in homestead style farming. In our future, we will explore the challenges of conditioning our soil, raising and marketing our crops, and the thrill of seeing life come alive in our livestock.
